AUCKLAND RIFLE ASSOCIATIONIn Auckland there are two Rifle Clubs, Akarana-City who shoot on the Cashmore Range at Kawakawa Bay and the Clevedon Rifle Club (more details)who shoot at Clevedon. See map showing location of Clevedon Range See map showing location of Cashmore Range Akarana-City shoot from 400 yards back to 800 yards alternating Saturday/ Sunday with Clevedon shooting from 300 yards back to 1000 yards on Saturdays. Both clubs start shooting at 10-00 am and shoot most of the day. Both clubs have Target Class shooters, using a sling to hold up the rifle and open sights, and F_Class where a scope and rest are used. F-Class also has a Hunter Class where hunting rifles are used but they usually do not shoot past 500 yards. The clubs operate from September through until May and are situated on working farms so changes to the club programmes happen depending on hay making, etc. With the ranges being on farms, no dogs are permitted. There are club rifles, jackets, scopes, ammunition and members available for people to come along to the club and give target shooting a go. Through out the shooting season there are a number of Club, Local, National and International Championships involving club members. Competition right up to Commonwealth Games is available or you can just shoot at will in the club. All shooting is conducted under strict range and safety conditions. We have competitor marking so everyone learns about shooting from both ends of the range. Contact Bruce Millard on 09-8188224 or e-mail Bruce for further details. |
